I’m a Principal Performance Engineer — twenty years now, mostly inside complex enterprise systems: performance, scalability, reliability, and the messy places where architecture meets reality. I care about the parts nobody sees, which is most of the job.
Most of what I’ve learned is that performance problems are rarely just performance problems. They’re usually symptoms of something upstream — an architecture decision, a capacity assumption, how two systems behave together under pressure. Increasingly, my work isn’t about running a tool and reading a number off it. It’s about understanding how a system actually behaves, where it will fail, and turning that evidence into a decision someone can act on.
In engineering, most of my job is removing unnecessary complexity until what’s actually happening becomes visible. Somewhere along the way I noticed the same instinct — measure everything, cut the noise, keep only what matters — was quietly doing the same thing to my own life. Systems can run flat out. People can’t. I didn’t want to find that out the hard way.
That’s the reason Travelescape Studio and Yohaanei exist. Travelescape started because I was tired of trips optimized for photos instead of actually being there. Yohaanei is a quiet corner on the internet for the end of your day — a 2-minute story to help you put down what you’re carrying and feel lighter. Both come from the same place: build less, but mean it.
There’s one more project that doesn’t fit that pattern, and it matters more to me than most things I build. Rajiv Dental Clinic, in my hometown of Giridih, is named for my father — a dentist who spent his career there, and who believed a patient’s natural tooth was always worth saving before anything else. He’s no longer here to say that himself. So this one is less about building something new and more about keeping something true: making sure his patients can still find the clinic, understand their options honestly, and get treated the way he would have treated them.
This is where I write the thinking out loud — essays, engineering notes, half-finished ideas, whatever I’m working through that week. If you’re trying to build something quieter than what everyone tells you to build, or wrestling with a system that won’t behave, some of it might be useful to you.
